About the Artist
Sue Hayes retired in 2018 after a distinguished career with Costco Wholesale, where she spent 34 years, including 15 years as the wine and spirits buyer. Her role allowed her to travel extensively through the world’s premier wine regions, interact with influential figures in the industry, and study with renowned experts. Her dedication to the field earned her the WSET certificate and induction into Bordeaux’s Commanderie du Bontemps de Médoc.
After retirement, Sue sought to explore her creative interests. During a relaxing stay in Hawaii, she encountered a local artist offering painting classes on the island of Kona. Inspired by the experience, Sue discovered a newfound passion for painting. Upon returning to Washington State, she began creating commissioned watercolor and mixed media art, with her works reaching clients across the USA and as far as the UK.
Sue further merged her love for art and wine by launching her own wine brand, Rain Shadows, featuring one of her paintings on the label. Today, she leads Sip & Paint events throughout the Pacific Northwest, sharing her passion for art with others. Sue finds great joy in guiding new art enthusiasts as they create and proudly display their own paintings.
